Happy Tuesday everyone! In my search for sensational party ideas I came across a Vintage World War II fourth of July party. Of course it was love at first sight! I found these pictures on simply stunning, and I have to say the party truly is stunning. It incorporates my love of vintage themes and it’s a unique idea.
So you want to throw a party, but the whole idea seems a little overwhelming and a bit daunting? Where do I start? What should the theme be, where is it going to take place, who should I invite, where do I get the supplies?! Ok, Ok one step at a time! First, I always think of a theme even if it’s just a few colors that I want to thread throughout the party. Here are a few websites that will help you pick a theme and buy all the party supplies you need to ensure your party is epic…or at least it will look really good!
Birthday Party Express Why you’ll love it: It’s a one-stop shop. It has a ton of theme ideas and everything is packaged together so you don’t need to stress that the party hats match the plates, etc.
Oriental Trading Co.- Why you’ll love it: It’s great for bulk purchases, such as favors, or prizes for games. They have endless options.
Party City- Why you’ll love it: It has great sales and great variety.
Ikea- Why you’ll love it: It’s the dark horse of party supplies, but you can get some great paper goods for good deals and the colors are just a little bit different.
Save on Crafts- Why you’ll love it: This site is for my DIYers, so of course I am in love with it. If you are looking to get creative then this is your site. They also have the must current trends when it comes to entertaining.
Etsy: Why you’ll love it: Talk about customized! I love Etsy because you can really personalize anything and the shops are so easy to work with.
Spring is just around the corner, you can almost feel it trying to get warmer. It’s time to trade in the bland and the grey for bursts of Spring colors! These dahlialike pom-poms remind me that springs cheerful radiance can be captured anytime of the year. The step by step guide that I found on Martha Stewart shows you how simple it can be to recreate these colorful flowers. I would use these to dress up the table for a dinner party, or they would be perfect decorations for a children’s birthday party.
How to Make the Pom-Poms
You’ll need tissue paper and 24-gauge white cloth-covered floral wire.
Hanging Pom-Poms
1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.
3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.
Napkin Rings
With just a few changes, these follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.
1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue.
3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.
The finished product!
You know me and DIY thrifty, I can’t get enough of it! Using mason jars as candles was an idea I loved right away. Thrift stores and Good Will would be a good place to find the mason jars, add any color ribbon and voila you have yourself a shabby chic candle holder. Use them to illuminate walkways or arrange on tables. To prevent the wax from sticking fill about 1/8 of the jar with water at the bottom, before placing the votive inside. Since these are just glass the jars can get very hot. Here is a mason jar inspiration board that has some of my favorite ideas.
